Description 'Bourbon' -from our 'Cultivar' collection, a selection of botanical varieties that show distinct characteristics from others. We find these coffees showcase the particular genetic characteristics of the cultivated variety in the best ways. Bourbon is one of the most culturally and genetically important varieties of C. arabica in the world, known for excellent quality. Its roots can be traced back to Yemen prior to its introduction to La Reunion island in the 18th century via French Missionaries. Nowadays, the many descendants of Bourbon make up the lion's share of the coffee coming from Latin America to the United States, but Bourbon with heirloom genetics can still be found. We love it for its rich caramel/chocolatey character, deep sweetness, balanced fruited acidity, and distinct hazelnut flavor note. This lot from Los Pirineos comes from plants grown exclusively from heritage Bourbon seed stock, known domestically as 'Elite Bourbon.' It showcases a pleasant citrus acidity, deep chocolate sweetness, and roasted hazelnut finish.
This coffee has a gentle caffeine level and a balanced amount of chlorogenic acids, resulting in a cup that’s smooth, mellow, and easy to enjoy — with enough brightness to keep it lively but not sharp.
