Which Rancilio Homeline Espresso Machine is Right for You?

Our Rancilio Homeline features two top-of-the-line home espresso machines made with commercial components – which means they're built to last. With Rancilio, you'll be producing cafe-quality espresso drinks right in your kitchen for years to come.

Below we’ll outline the differences between our two machine offerings – the Silvia Classic and the Silvia Pro X – so you can see which one works best for your lifestyle!

Our Homeline Espresso Machines...

The Rancilio Silvia Classic was introduced in 1997, a home espresso machine with commercial-grade components and a single boiler. Almost a quarter of a century later, the Silvia Pro X was released as an upgrade to the Silvia Classic, a dual boiler home espresso machine with added features.

What are the biggest differences?

The biggest difference, apart from size, is that the Silvia Pro X is more feature rich. Over the years, the Silvia Classic has been beloved by home users to tinker and modify. While developing the Silvia Pro X, we added some of those most popular features.
The main difference in features is that the Silvia Pro X is a dual boiler espresso machine with dual PID, while the Silvia Classic is a single boiler. The dual boilers allow the user to steam milk while extracting espresso, while the Silvia Classic requires you to switch between two boiler modes. Logistically, it makes using the Pro X a little easier when creating milk-based drinks.
The PID on the dual boilers of the Silvia Pro X is a more accurate and advanced temperature control system. These PID’s are the same as those used on our commercial espresso machines. They are very accurate and give more temperature stability. In comparison, the Silvia Classic uses small thermal couples that live on the outside of the boiler, meaning that there is a very slight delay when reading temperature.

What is Variable Soft Infusion?

Learn about our new Variable Soft Infusion feature and how it can take your coffee to a whole new level and unlock flavor experiences like never before.
Variable Soft Infusion applies an ambient pressure to soak the puck before it sees a ramp up to full pressure. We have found that it produces a silkier body with less acidity, allowing you to experiment with your espresso and unlock flavor experiences.

Reduce Espresso Channeling with Variable Soft Infusion

Can variable soft infusion reduce channeling? We show you the proof in this quick overview of variable soft infusion on the Rancilio Silvia Pro X featuring some very bad tamping. It's pretty bad.

Which One Should You Choose?

If you like to tinker with the mechanics of a machine and want to add your own accessories... the Silvia Classic is a great starter machine with many after-market accessory kits and a large online community to engage with.
If you enjoy making milk-based drinks like lattes and cappuccinos... the Silvia Pro X will be the better option for you, as the dual boilers allow for simultaneous brewing and steaming without any loss in temperature.
In a catering or commercial environment... the Silvia Pro X will be better equipped for a fast-paced drink making as it boasts competition-level temperature accuracy, shot after shot.
The Rancilio Silvia Classic and Silvia Pro X both have a modern design and are made with commercial-grade components that brew powerful espresso. Both are also extremely temperature stable and durable, and will last you for a decade, if not more. At the end of the day, you should pick the espresso machine that fits your kitchen and lifestyle the best!
